The Knoll Saarinen Chair is supported by a five-point, height-adjustable swiveling pneumatic base with twin-wheel casters for use on carpet.
The Executive was originally made of fiberglass but was then updated to polyurethane.

The feel, nevertheless, remains completely unaltered. The Saarinen Executive Armchair comes with a molded shell that flexes slightly when sitting on it and a contoured plywood seat.
Unlike Saarinen’s other furniture pieces, which had a consistently sculptural form, the fluid lines belonging to the Executive Chair didn’t appear in his design work until the 1950s. If you were to look at the dome-shaped glass wall of MIT’s Kresge Auditorium, it’s not a big leap to see the same shape in the back of this Executive Chair.
