PK25 Lounge Chair Details

Designed in 1951 by Poul Kjrholm, the PK25 Chair was created for his final graduation project at the School of Applied Arts in Copenhagen.

The PK25 Lounge Chair, also referred to as the ‘Element’ chair, is an excellent example of the young Kjrholm’s eagerness to work with commonly available, industrial materials.

Kjrholm set about his work with a determination to reduce the chair to a single piece of each material. And the end result was the overarching hallmark.

The rather complex, continuous steel frame is bent without joints and connections. A braided rope is wrapped around the frame providing a tight and yet flexible seat and backrest.
