Best Airsoft Masks Review

What are the best airsoft face masks currently available? Unless you own a very large backyard, the game of airsoft isn’t likely to feature. Nevertheless, airsoft is growing in terms of popularity and it is, of course, an outdoor game. Hence I’ve reviewed the best airsoft face masks for 2022 in this article.

While the pursuit of airsoft is becoming more popular, many parents remain unfamiliar. And for some that are familiar, there’s a definitive amount of skepticism.

Perhaps you’ve heard your own child mention “airsoft.” At which point you’ve started to wonder what it is.

While an airsoft gun cannot be described as a toy, neither is it classed as a firearm.

Yes, it is a gun, but it propels small plastic bullets (BBs) that are close to being harmless. Emphasis on ‘close.’

The guns can be CO2 powered, spring-powered, or battery powered. Even the more powerful airsoft guns are, in fact, non-lethal. Yes, when fired, and fired improperly, a bullet from an airsoft gun can break the skin. A bullet from an airsoft gun can, likewise, displace an eye. This is why it is absolutely imperative to wear an airsoft face mask or separate goggles when playing the game.

It’s also very important to wear other protective apparel when playing airsoft, including airsoft elbow/ arm pads and an airsoft helmet.

Incidentally, airsoft and paintball body protection apparel can double up. In other words, you can use paintball body pads for airsoft, too. However, you cannot use every airsoft face mask for paintball.

Why can many airsoft face masks not be used for paintball?

Airsoft face masks are made in such a way that they provide face and eye protection against the plastic bullets (BBs) used in the pursuit. Many airsoft face masks feature mesh eye protection which works against BBs but not against paint.

From the airsoft face masks I’ve reviewed below, both of the full-face masks are unsuitable for paintball use. However, both of the half-face airsoft masks reviewed below can be used for airsoft, paintball, shooting, hunting, and more.

Airsoft can be described as a dynamic sport. It includes different play styles such as the more traditional Capture the Flag and King of the Hill as well as games that utilize Military tactics.

Anyway, just to reiterate, in this article, we review the best airsoft face masks for 2022. For a list of airsoft face mask FAQs, head to the lower part of this article. Now, let’s get to the airsoft mask reviews!

OneTigris 6″ Foldable Half-Face Military-Style Mesh Mask

Best Airsoft MasksThe OneTigris 6-inch Foldable Half-Face Military-Style Mesh Mask for airsoft is made from steel and 1000D nylon (think ‘CORDURA®’).

The OneTigris comes with softly padded nylon fabric cheek sides together with nose protection.

The mask is foldable as the name correctly suggests. This makes it easier to carry. Plus it’s extremely lightweight (3.36 ounces – 95.2g) making it ultra-portable.

The mesh part around the nose doesn’t fog because air ventilation is excellent.

The OneTigris 6-inch Mask fits most sizes and comes with a twin rear strap with a skull cup band to provide a snugger fit in order to accommodate a variety of head sizes.

The OneTigris 6-inch Foldable Half-Face Military-Style Mesh Mask is, as mentioned, suited to airsoft pursuits. It’s also suitable for various alternative outdoor activities including paintball.

With an ambient air temperature of between 14F to 108F (-10℃ to 42℃), impact resistance is a minimum of 800 FPS (most standard airsoft guns can shoot at up to 410 FPS).

The low-profile design of the mask means you get improved shape below the cheek area. In turn, this means it’s easier to aim down sights.

OneTigris airsoft mask is available in nine different colors: alpine, arid (come with helmet attachment strap), black, green, Multicam, Multicam black, tan, tropic (comes with helmet attachment strap), and woodland (comes with helmet attachment strap).

The OneTigris airsoft mesh mask has passed something called the ANSI Z80.3 drop-ball test. The requirement to pass this test is to undergo a basic-level FDA drop-ball test at a height of 50 inches whereby a 5/8 inch steel ball is dropped onto the target area. The impact is 0.2 joules equivalent to a 0.551 lbs. (0.25kg) object being dropped at a height of 3.15 inches (80mm).

Mask Specifications:

– Dimensions: 9.6″(L) * 5.5″(W) / (24.5cm * 14cm)
– Weight: 3.36 ounces (95.25g)
– Size: One size (6 inches) fits most
– Type: Half-face
– Made of steel + 1000D nylon

Airsoft Masks FAQs

Question: Are airsoft masks safe for paintball?

Some are, some are not. In all, I’ve reviewed four airsoft masks up above. Two of them (the full-face airsoft masks) are unsuitable/ unsafe for paintball. Two of them (half-face masks) are suitable for paintball.

The reason why not all airsoft masks are safe/ suitable for paintball is that some feature mesh eye and mouth protection. Imagine being hit in the face (mask) by a paintball when your mask features mesh eye and mouth protection. Hmmm… the paint goes right through.

Question: What is the Best Airsoft Helmet (2020)?

Question: What are the best airsoft goggles if I wear glasses (2020)?

The Dye i5 Paintball Goggle.

Yes, the name of this goggle includes the word ‘Paintball’. But the Dye i5 Goggle is also suited to airsoft among other physical pursuits.

Many people who utilize the Dye i5 Goggle either wear a scarf or shemagh around the neck area in addition to a tactical helmet for head protection.

The Dye i5 Paintball Goggle comes with a GSR Pro Strap which affords excellent comfort, precise tension control, and top-notch safety. The strap tightens/ loosens care of a ratchet strap system.

You get excellent optical clarity with the Dye i5 with horizontal and vertical peripheral vision thanks to the Tirodial Horizon 290-degree anti-fog lens.

Communication is enhanced and moisture and heat buildup dissipated thanks to the multi-directional venting.

You can also attach a POV camera to the Dye i5 Goggle and mount it on the Universal Heads-Up POV mount (included with purchase of i5 Goggle).

The Rapid Lens Change and Quick-Release Foam Kit means you can change either your lens or foam fast.

What is the best airsoft mask for aiming?

The Dye i5 Paintball Goggle (see just above for info) is a very good choice of airsoft google for aiming. However, we’re looking for an airsoft mask rather than goggles…

So, how about a half-mask?

If a half-mask is fine for you then the Unigear Half-Face Lower Mask is a great choice. I’ve reviewed the Unigear above.

Also, the OneTigris 6-inch Foldable Half-Face Military-Style Mesh Mask is an excellent choice. Again, this half-mask for airsoft is reviewed above.

Now, the reason that most full-face mesh masks are not great for aiming purposes is that they can dig into your face or they can push upwards which then knocks your headgear and goggles out of sync.

With the Unigear and OneTigris you get mesh to cover over your nose and your mouth. The remainder of either mask is flexible and very comfortable to wear.
